PlayStation 5: 10 things you need to do after buying
The PlayStation 5 (PS5) was launched on November 19, 2020, and, since then, it has become one of Brazilians’ most desired video games. Because it is a brand new console, it is common to get confused when installing, to configure, and buying games on the device.
Check out the tips in the following lines.
Haven’t you bought a PS5 yet? Watch our video and learn all about the console:
Find a prominent place for the PS5
The PS5 is spacious and needs a place with good air circulation. First, you will need to position your new PlayStation 5 on a piece of furniture or a table. The video game is the biggest console manufactured to date and surpasses even the first Xbox One and the “fat” PS3. At 39 cm high, 10.4 cm wide, and 26 cm deep, the PS5 must be placed in a very spacious place to ensure good airflow inside the device and prevent overheating.
To help with this task, Sony includes a stand in the box that allows you to position the PS5 lying down or standing up. Both positions are ideal, as the fan that cools the device is in the middle, and the air vents are at the back. So there is no risk of making a mistake here.
It is worth remembering that if you have the PS5 version with a media reader, the disc needs to be inserted into the drive with the printed side facing the center of the device. If the console is lying down, the Blu-Ray enters with the image facing up. If you are standing, turn the dial 90 degrees counterclockwise and insert the game with the print facing the left.
Connect the PS5 to the TV’s HDMI 2.1 input

The PlayStation 5 is a console with a lot of graphics power. In addition to achieving resolution up to 4K, the device can display more fluid images at up to 120 frames per second (fps). For comparison, traditional movies show 24 fps, while the PS4 maxed out at 60 fps.
It’s not mandatory, but to take full advantage of the PS5’s performance, you’ll need a TV with an HDMI 2.1 input, like Samsung’s Q70T and Q80T or LG’s Nano86 and CX. This interface is the only one, so far, that supports native frequencies of up to 120Hz, which is needed to show the 120 frames per second in 4K. If you don’t have a television like this, you will still be able to play games on PS5, but it will only have 60 fps.
If you have a TV supporting HDMI 2.1 at home, use the cable in your PS5 box and plug the console into the correct port. Depending on the model, the interface type will be written next to the referring entry.
Create a PlayStation account
A PlayStation account is required to purchase games and subscribe to PlayStation Plus.
To enjoy all the features of the PS5 and buy games from the digital store, you need to have a PlayStation account. To create one for free, go to the platform’s website (zoom. do/37DzExS) and follow the instructions on the screen. In the end, you can now use the credentials to log into the console.
With the account created, you can also subscribe to PlayStation Plus, a service that allows users to play online, redeem games for free monthly, and have cloud storage resources.
Transfer data from PS4 to PS5
This tip is valid for players who migrated from PlayStation 4 (PS4) to PS5. As the console is backward compatible with the previous generation, it can transfer games and save files between platforms.
You can use PlayStation Plus cloud storage if you subscribe to the service. Just upload it to PS4 and then download the data to PS5. If you don’t have a PS Plus or an Internet connection, you can still transfer files through the device’s USB interface with a flash drive or external HDD.

In addition to games, the PS5 is also a content hub. The PlayStation Store offers free streaming apps such as Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Twitch, YouTube, Crunchyroll, Apple TV, and Spotify. In addition, you can also watch 4K Blu-Ray movies directly from the console.
To find these apps, access the console’s digital store, log into your account and search for the name of the app you want.
Configure default game options
It is possible to set a default difficulty for more challenging games, such as Devil May Cry 5.
The PS5 allows players to select game difficulty, resolution, and language options directly from the console’s menu. To access this option, go to the settings, enter “Game settings and save data,” and then “Game Defaults.”
- Difficulty: Here, you can choose the default difficulty for the games between ‘Easier,’ ‘Easy,’ ‘Medium,’ ‘Hard,’ or ‘Harder.’
- Performance mode or resolution mode: this option allows you to choose whether to prioritize image quality (resolution mode) or the number of frames per second in a game (performance mode).
- First-person/third-person camera: This allows you to change camera controls in games and choose between regular and inverted movements.
- Subtitles and Audio: Let the player choose the language of the game’s lines and subtitles, even if they are different from the language used in the console’s menus.
Adjust 3D audio
The PS5 headset is sold separately from the console.
One of the new features of the PS5 is the support for audio in three dimensions, which promises to increase immersion during gameplay when you are using a headset.
To activate, go to the console settings, access the “Audio” menu, and enter “Audio Output.” Switch the output device to headphones with a headset connected to the DualSense controller. Now activate the 3D audio and adjust the intensity.
